Generating scripts for your AdSense advertisement, referall and search box

Questions regarding the basics of generating scripts for AdSense ads to paste into your template for the ads to be displayed are sometimes asked on forums. This post is to try to answer their questions in simple language.

If you don't have an AdSense account, you can apply for one by clicking on the text link "Generate revenue from your website. Google AdSense) at the top of the right sidebar. Assuming you already have an AdSense account, you first have to sign into your account by entering your user name (email address) and password at Google AdSense signin page. After you log in, the first page you will see is the daily report of your earning. Above the report are 3 tabs, one of which is "AdSense Setup". Click on that. You will then be given 3 choices below - "AdSense for Content", "AdSense for Search" and "Referrals". If this is the first time you are generating the script, it is best to configure and save a color palette so that your ad will blend (appear like the rest of the content of the site). This is described in the post Blending the colors of your ads to colors of your website
